West Country Cheesemakers launch Strictly Come Ploughman's
Whatever its historical origins, the recipe for the perfect Ploughman’s Lunch has been the source of much debate over the years, so West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers has launched the search for the best examples across the country.
‘Strictly Come Ploughman’s’ is a nationwide competition which will see the Great British public nominate the source of their favourite Ploughman’s Lunch, be it pub, café or restaurant. Regional finalists will be judged by a panel of experts at the Great British Cheese Festival and the winning formula announced at the beginning of British Cheese Week.
Whether you’re a purist and believe in limiting the iconic menu option to a wedge of West Country Farmhouse Cheddar, crusty bread and an apple, or prefer a more diverse range of ingredients on the plate, one thing’s for sure – the Ploughman’s Lunch is the most enduring format for the simple enjoyment of a delicious cheese and perfect accompaniments.

Royal ploughmans for the Countess
After last years washout , the sun shone brightly on The Countess of Wessex as she attended the PDO lunch and presented Parkham farms with cups for both the reserve champion cheese and best PDO West Country Farmhouse cheddar. The show was a triumph for our other farmhouse cheesemakers too with a total of 40 medals and 7 special awards, just rewards for all the care and craftsmanship that goes into all our handmade cheeses.
